(If you don’t know the reference to the title of this substack, you did not watch enough I Love Lucy growing up! (Lucille Ball was actually pregnant with their first baby when they taped this and it makes me cry every time!)).

But yes, we are having a baby later this summer!! Due only a few days after my late father-in-law’s birthday.

It is still so completely surreal I don’t even really know how to write about it. I won’t lie, it was a slight ~surprise~ to both of us, though not far off from our timeline. I don’t take for granted how lucky I am to be pregnant, how strange and meaningful this experience is.

It is also hard to talk about a journey I’m still on, with so many unknowns up ahead. All this to say, everything written below is just capturing what it has been like so far, I’m sure I’ll come back and read it someday and shake my head, like what did I even know then. And while I’ve found it special to keep things internal and private, to let all my thoughts about pregnancy and motherhood just roam around in my head (and in Sammy’s ear), I know there is so much beauty in sharing. So here are some words I wrote, some photos i saved, from my first trimester.
